1934-2016
Ruth E. Stroud, 82, Liberty Center, passed away at 12:10 a.m. March 16, 2016, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. She was born in Decatur March 15, 1934, to the late Paul E. and Bernice (Thornton) Johnson. On Dec. 26, 1952, in Bluffton, she married Richard Stroud W9SR and enjoyed the last 63 years together; he survives. She attended school in Fort Wayne, Pleasant Mills and graduated from Bluffton High School in 1952. Ruth retired in 1980 as the manager of the cafeteria of Southern Wells Community Schools after 20 years of service. She was a dedicated member of the Liberty Center United Methodist Church and served on many committees. Ruth was a long time Amateur Radio Operator for W9BRN and traveled with several motor home clubs. Among survivors are four children, Gary L. (Peggy L.) Stroud of Manassas, Va., Karen J. (Gary) Parsons of Fort Wayne, Keith A. (Tammy) Stroud of Bluffton and Greg C. (Susan) Stroud of Huntington; siblings. Paul W. (Lois) Johnson of Port Orange, Fla., Norma (Frank) Moser of Bluffton, Jerry (Sandy) Johnson of Sherrills Ford, N. C. and Carolyn (Dave) Schaefer of Liberty Center; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Ries. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Pastor Chad Yoder will officiate. Burial will follow at Mossburg Cemetery in Liberty Center. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday, also at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Riley Children's Hospital. |
